Hastily arrange to meet David and break the news. No idea how to do it, though. Think, Im a mature woman itll be easy. Its not. When I order a lime and soda, hes immediately suspicious wondering why Im not horsing down my usual pint of lager. I brush it off telling him Im thirsty. Order food and start talking about the house were in the throes of renovating. He says hes found out that we cant get a council grant to take the lead piping out unless, of course, someone in the house is pregnant. Oh, well, I say, thats OK, then well get the grant. Its only after Ive reiterated my subtle little point three times three times! that the penny drops.

Cant stop eating. I mean I really, really cant Im absolutely ravenous. People say you shouldnt eat for two. Well, thats OK, then, coz Im not its more like six Im eating for.

This is the hilarious account of Alison Craigs experiences of pregnancy and early motherhood. Following a similar format to her immensely popular Sunday Mail column Alisons Diary, she charts the pitfalls and the delights of going from party-loving career woman to alcohol-free mother-to-be and then ever onwards into unprepared motherhood and deranged working mum.

Will she adjust to this whole new lifestyle? Exactly how little sleep is it possible to survive on? And will she ever have a waist again? Find out in this irreverent romp through The Nappy Years.
